Oscar E. Cruz is a community leader with more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit field. He most recently served as Citizen Schools’ CEO, an organization focused on helping all students thrive in school and beyond through hands-on learning and career mentors.
Previously, Mr. Cruz served as Chief Operating Officer at United Way of Greater Los Angeles where he oversaw efforts to center racial equity at the core of UWGLA internal operations and programmatic work. Prior to that, Mr. Cruz was the President & CEO of Families In Schools (FIS), an organization dedicated to providing capacity building to education staff, helping families to support their children’s education, and advocating for policies and practices that promote authentic family engagement.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in Latin American studies from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and Latin American studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Oscar currently serves as a board member with the following organizations: Community Partners, Diversity in Leadership Institute, Great Public Schools Now, and The National Association for Family, School and Community Engagement (NASFCE).
