Webinar: Equitable Literacy Instruction: Ensuring the Science of Reading Works for All Children

Share:

Session Description:

The science of reading has been the focus of legislation in states across the country in recent years but is often misunderstood. A recent report by our partners at the Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) affirms how this science is a foundational body of research essential for informing effective literacy instruction, which is crucial for fostering children’s literacy success. Understanding this science helps educators implement teaching strategies that enhance reading skills from an early age, thereby setting the stage for lifelong learning and achievement in literacy. Due to the confusion about the science of reading, the translation into practice and the application in the classroom requires critical attention — especially to ensure that instructional techniques are implemented in a way that is driven by a focus on equity. Supporting educators in building both their literacy content and culturally sustaining practices will better serve the unique and diverse needs of all children, including English language learners. Engaging national experts, this session will explore the research around ensuring equity in the science of reading and the strategies that work for literacy instruction in classrooms and other learning settings.
