Empowering Every Child’s Right to Learn and Thrive: A Message from SEAL
Dear Friends and Partners,
With the presidential election results confirmed, we recognize that this moment brings a range of emotions across our communities and in our schools. During these recent days, we have been focusing on our friends, family, team members and school partners, recognizing the feelings of uncertainty, fear, and concern for the future that many are experiencing.
At SEAL, our mission remains as unwavering today as it was when we first began serving our community over 15 years ago. We stand committed to supporting California’s multilingual learners and their families - many of whom are immigrants and newcomers - by honoring them as valued assets to the rich diversity of our country. With over 40% of California students speaking a language other than English at home, SEAL values this linguistic diversity by uplifting home languages and strengthening the connections between learning, culture and family.
Our teachers are central partners in this mission, and we are dedicated to equipping them with evidence-based, responsive strategies that enhance academic success and also foster joy and engagement in the classroom. Fear— such as returning to an empty home and family separation—hinders learning and growth. Every child deserves a safe and supportive learning environment, and we are committed to working with SEAL educators to live into what is ahead.
We will continue to work tirelessly to amplify our students' and school communities’ voices, celebrate their stories and empower their contributions in our classrooms and communities. By supporting educators in creating inclusive, dynamic learning environments and building strong family-school partnerships, we aim to nurture each child’s resilience, pride and multicultural identity.
The future is indeed multilingual and multicultural. Together, we will navigate these times with an unwavering commitment to every child’s right to learn, grow and thrive. Join us in this journey - follow our work and support our mission as we empower educators, honor diversity and advocate for the rights of all multilingual students.
Sincerely,
The SEAL Team
